Overview
Drink in the beauty, history and flavor of the Rhine and Moselle river valleys’ iconic vineyards. Begin your journey with a gentle ride through Amsterdam’s legendary canals, then head to Cologne, where you can whet your palate for the wines ahead by tasting Kölsch beer. As for the vineyards, you’ll soar above them by gondola or hike among the grapes in Rüdesheim and sip wines in Bernkastel.
Itinerary
Day 1 – Amsterdam
Board the ship for your Vineyards of the Rhine & Moselle cruise. (D)
Day 2 – Amsterdam
There are 165 canals in Amsterdam, and you’ll get to enjoy some of them on your canal cruise. Later in the day, set sail out of Amsterdam. (B,L,D)
Day 3 – Historic Düsseldorf, Cologne highlights, and local brew
Explore Düsseldorf at the confluence of the Düssel and Rhine rivers. Take a walking tour through the city’s highlights, including Königsallee, and enjoy a tasting of local Altbier at a lively brewhouse. Alternatively, visit Cologne’s Old Town with its historic Rathaus and markets, or join a guided bike tour through Düsseldorf. (B,L,D)
Day 4 – Rüdesheim
Cruise along the Rhine River, admiring castles along the way, before arriving in Rüdesheim. Soar above the vineyards on a gondola to the Niederwalddenkmal Statue and enjoy a wine tasting, or hike and bike through the scenic Rheingau. Later, visit Siegfried’s Mechanical Instrument Cabinet or savor Rüdesheimer coffee, made with brandy, coffee, and whipped cream. (B,L,D)
Day 5 – Mainz – Lahnstein
Arrive in Mainz at the confluence of the Main and Rhine rivers and join a walking tour of the city’s historic treasures, including the Old University, Staatstheater, and the Gutenberg Museum, home to two original 15th-century Bibles. Alternatively, explore Wiesbaden’s theater and famous thermal spring, or take a guided bike tour through Mainz. Later, cruise through the scenic Rhine River Gorge to Lahnstein and enjoy an exclusive visit to Burg Lahneck Castle. (B,L,D)
Day 6 – Moselle Valley – Cochem
Spend the morning cruising the scenic Moselle before arriving in Cochem, known for its half-timbered houses and Reichsburg Castle. Join a guided tour of the castle and stroll through the Old Town, or for a more active adventure, hike to the castle or take a guided bike tour through Cochem. (B,L,D)
Day 7 – Bernkastel
Explore Bernkastel on a guided walking tour through its colorful Old Town, past medieval and Renaissance buildings. Alternatively, savor the region’s flavors with a winery visit and tasting, hike to the 9th-century Landshut Castle ruins, or enjoy a scenic bike tour along the Moselle. (B,L,D)
Day 8 – Luxembourg
Disembark the ship and bid farewell to our crew as you prepare for your return flight home. (B)
