What’s New for 2018?

WHAT’S NEW FOR 2018 – By Dick West, Explor Cruises’ Founder and CEO – Chief Experience Officer

I have received many requests for more advance information on programs and offerings in 2018, and even 2019 and beyond. So we have been busy gathering information and putting it up on our NEW web site as fast as we can – www.explorcruises.com.

We  have programs in the US and Canada including Alaska, the Great Lakes, New England,  Hudson River,  the Atlantic coast, and rivers; Antarctica; the Arctic, including Iceland, Greenland, Svalbard, and Frans Josef Land; Europe, including the Adriatic Sea, Croatia, the Greek Isles;  the Amazon in Brazil, Ecuador and Peru; Patagonia and Cape Horn;  the Seychelle Islands; Japan, Vietnam; South Pacific; New Zealand; the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu –  Wherever you want to go – let us know and we will find a way to get you there with an amazing itinerary!

Let me address a few highlights –

ANTARCTICA – We offer two ways to visit the White Continent – the traditional cruise across the infamous Drake Passage that takes two days each way, and a novel program that utilizes jet flight across the Drake in just two hours. Both spend about 6 days exploring the Antarctica Peninsula. These cruises operate every year from November to March. In addition, there are several programs that combine visits to the Falkland Islands, and South Georgia Island, following in the wake of Shakelton.

VANUATU – Truly an amazing destination. We visited the islands of Vanuatu with our former “Spirit of Oceanus”. It was one of the most memorable and incredible experiences of my life. I feared no one would fill the void left when we stopped cruising there, but fortunately Silversea Expeditions deploys the Silver Discoverer to sail these islands, visiting Ambryn and other wonderful islands.

NORWEGIAN FJORDS TO SVALBARD – Join Leslie and me on this expedition cruise aboard the luxurious Silver Cloud Expedition, the newest addition to the growing Silversea Expedition fleet of all-inclusive exploration ships. The cruise is from July 6-19, Kristiansund to Svalbard.

ALASKA – Some amazing new itineraries are in store for the adventurers – in 2018 sail round-trip from Nome to the East Siberian Sea – visiting Wrangell Island and going the the very edge of the Acrtic ice pack. In 2019 cruise the “Top of the World” from Nome, Alaska to Tromso, Norway on a 25 day expedition like no other!

And, due to the proximity, these cruises make a great package when combined with visits to Denali National Park, and the popular Kenai Peninsula. We will be offering all inclusive Denali Park programs with our long time family friends who operate Camp Denali, and Northface Lodge, both situated deep inside the park at the end of the park road, in view of Mount Mckinley (Denali) , and far away from the crowds and traffic of the park entrance where most people stay.

We are also offering two great all inclusive programs operated by another longtime Alaska friend, Kurt Hoessle at Alaska Wildland Adventures. He has two lodges we will be offering. The Kenai River Lodge is located right on banks of the Kenai River, featuring individual cabins with private facilities. Fishing trips, hikes, and raft trips are available right from the lodge. A new lodge open only a few years is the Kenai Fjords Lodge, situated in front of a glacier inside Kenai National Park. A scenic 4 hour boat ride from Seward takes you to this remote lodge, which also boasts individual cabins with private facilities. Kayaking, canoeing, and hiking are all included.

The food at all these lodges rivals anything you could experience, using fresh ingredients, sometimes right out of the local garden!
