DAY 2 – TOUR SANTIAGO – After breakfast at your hotel, enjoy an Architectural Walking Tour: A Journey Through a City in Constant Change. This tour is designed to give a complete overview of the urban history of Santiago, as well as some of its most important architectural landmarks, both historical (Museo de Bellas Artes, Cerro Santa Lucia, Central Market and Mapocho) and contemporary buildings (Centro Cultural Gabriela Mistral, MAVI).  During the walk we will see the union between tradition and modernity in this bustling city. DAY 3 – WINE TOUR – On this full day tour you will visit the Casablanca Valley, the youngest viticulture area which boasts the perfect trilogy: climate, soil and vines. You will visit two wineries, with tastings at both, and have lunch at one.

First visit Vina Casa del Bosque. For many years Juan Cuneo Solari, an Italian immigrant’s son, dreamed of having his own vineyards to produce the best quality wines. In 1993 he discovered the Casablanca Valley and started his winery. He was one of the first to establish a family vineyard here. The ancient pine and olive woods, and the small dispersed and abandoned houses, were key factors in determining the location of the vineyards and the manor house, giing the name Casa del Bosques – or Houses of the Woods. Being a boutique winery producing just 75,000 cases per year enables the wine makers to concentrate on producing the best quality possible. Over 80% of the vineyards production is exported to the most demanding overseas markets. They produce Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Carmenere, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Enjoy wine tasting.

Next we visit Vina Matetic located in nearby San Antonio Valley. The story of the Matetic vineyard begins in 1999 when the Matetic family decided to diversify their business ventures and enter the world confident in the climate and soils of the area. The family brought together a professional team of experts to ensure the Matetic wines achieve the highest quality possible. Enjoy tasting their wines – Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Gewurztraminer and Riesling. Lunch will be at the winery’s restaurant, Equilibrio. Return to your hotel.  (B, L)

DAY 4 – PATAGONIA – Transfer to the airport for your included flight to Punta Arenas, the southernmost city of Chile.  Arrive in Punta Arenas, Chile, where you are welcomed by ANTARCTICA XXI staff and transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon, you attend a briefing that provides important information about your voyage and reviews the essential guidelines for Antarctic visitors. Later, gather for a welcome dinner and meet your fellow adventurers while enjoying a typical regional menu. (B, D)

DAY 5 – FLY OVER DRAKE PASSAGE TO ANTARCTICA – Your Antarctic adventure begins with a two-hour flight from Punta Arenas to King George Island, in the South Shetland Islands. As you exit the airplane, the clear Antarctic air fills your lungs for the first time. Explore the area surrounding Chile’s Frei Station and Russia’s Bellingshausen station, before boarding a Zodiac to embark your expedition vessel. (B, L, D)

DAYS 6-9 – CRUISE ANTARCTIC PENINSULA – Cruise between the South Shetland Islands and the western coast of the Antarctic Peninsula, sailing along ice-filled fjords and among spectacular icebergs, while enjoying the company of sea birds, penguins, seals and whales. Each day, disembark by Zodiac and explore the landscape together with expert polar guides. On board the ship, attend an engaging program of lectures and presentations, and enjoy spectacular vistas from the glass-enclosed lounge while sharing your daily adventures with fellow guests. (B, L D)

No journey is the same as flexibility is the key to success in Antarctica. The Expedition Team sets the voyage route to take advantage of the ever-changing opportunities provided by Nature, crafting a unique and extraordinary experience each time. While the exact itinerary changes with each expedition, you will explore several spots that offer the best possible overview of the varied Antarctic environment. Your voyage may include visits to sites such as Paulet Island, Hope Bay, Port Lockroy, Petermann Island, Paradise Bay, Deception Island, the Lemaire Channel, or many other magnificent places.

DAY 10 – RETURN TO KING GEORGE ISLAND AND FLY OVER DRAKE PASSAGE TO PUNTA ARENAS – Bid farewell to Antarctica before boarding the flight back to Punta Arenas. Transfer to hotel and have time to rest and explore Punta Arenas. (B)

Although the itinerary varies according to local ice and wind conditions, we plan to land at such places as Paradise Harbour, where humpback and minke whales are often sighted offshore.

Petermann Island, the habitat of Gentoo and Adelie Penguins; and Deception Island, known for its volcanically-heated hot springs. Navigating through the magnificent Lemaire, Errera,  Neumayer, and other protected channels are also planned.

Ship: Corinthian II

Tour Itinerary

CLASSIC ANTARCTICA TOUR TWO – THE GRAND PATAGONIA-ANTARCTICA ADVENTURE –  M/V CORINTHIAN

SANTIAGO | TORRES DEL PAINE | CALAFATE | USHUAIA | ANTARCTICA | BUENOS AIRES

23-DAYS/22-NIGHTS

DAY 1 – ARRIVE SANTIAGO – meet and transfer to your choice of boutique hotels. Remainder of day is free to unwind and acclimate.

We will see the former National Congress and continue to the heart of Santiago, its Main Square, and the beautiful historic buildings of the neighborhood. The tour ends at the Civic Center, with the accumulated history of Palacio de la Moneda. Lunch will be provided at a local restaurant. Remainder of day is free to explore on your own. (B, L)

Arrive in Punta Arenas, Chile. Transfer to Las Torres Lodge, in the very heart of Patagonia’s Torres del Paine National Park. This unique location offers panoramic views of the mountains set amidst solitude and local wildlife. A variety of activities await you to discover this amazing wilderness, whether on foot or horseback. And a full service spa will pamper and revitalize your body after your adventures.

DAY 5 & 6 – LAS TORRES ADVENTURES (B, L, D) Enjoy a selection of included activities – such as hike, nature walk, horseback riding.

DAY 7 – CALAFATE, ARGENTINA – Transfer to your hotel in El Calafate. This afternoon, visit the Glaciarium and Glaciobar, one of the few glaciological interpretation centers in the world, and designed to promote knowledge and enhance the senses.

DAY 8 – LOS GLACIARES NATIONAL PARK | PERITO MORENO GLACIER – After breakfast you will visit Los Glaciares National Park, created in 1937 to preserve a vast area covered by continental ice fields and glaciers. Due to its spectacular beauty, glaciological significance, and endangered species, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Monument in 1981. Perito Moreno Glacier is the main attraction. Icebergs calve from the face with a roar, revealing vivid blue ice. Once in the park you will board a boat to cruise across Lago Argentino, where you will enjoy a short walk to get even closer to the glacier. Crampons are provided to enable you to walk on the glacier for a two hour ice trek, with amazing up close views of the glacier. A box lunch is provided to enjoy prior to returning by boat. (B, L)

DAY 9 – GLACIERS GOURMET EXPERIENCE –  Start early in the morning with a transfer to Punta Bandera pier to board the Mar Patag cruise toward Upsala Glacier. The ship will stop in front of the barrier ice floe, which, at present, is blocking the entrance to Canal Upsala. Then the ship will continue across Lago  Argentino through the Canal Spegazzini, to the glacier of the same name. As we get closer to the four hundred foot tall face of the glacier, lunch will be served. Afterwards, the cruise will continue to Puesto de Las Vacas, where you will be lead on a shore walk for some stunning views. You will return to the dock at 6 PM and be transferred to your hotel. (B, L)
